This post is just in time for those of you starting your Christmas shopping. The products have been out over a month now but you can still get them in shops and online, purrfect for any makeup lovers on your 'nice' list.“Le maison de Shupette is now open!” announced Karl Lagerfeld via his Twitter page on 15 October. The makeup range in collaboration with cosmetic giants Shu Uemura and inspired by his beloved cat Choupette has arrived. Yes, a cat has its own high-end beauty collection. This may sound absurd but any fan of Lagerfeld will be aware of the high regard in which he holds his feline muse and how lavishly she lives.
This is also not the high-flying kitty’s first foray into the human fashion world, with a lifestyle advice book penned in her name and an impressive social media presence. It’s also no surprise that Shu Uemura have chosen to collaborate with the German designer to launch their festive holiday collection. When colouring his own fashion illustrations, it is well known that Lagerfeld uses various products, specifically the eyeliner pencils from the long-established cosmetics company as opposed to more traditional pencils. The website description cites ‘this season – Paris is in, fur is in and Shupette is very in’ and if the pioneering makeup brand have their way, then this will very much be the case.
The capsule collection features eye shadow and lip palettes with a solid range of colours from brights to neutrals, blusher shades and cleansing oil. To finish all this off, they have designed a handy layered metal cosmetic case to keep everything in, and Shu Uemura’s arguably most famous product, their eyelash curlers, have been given the Choupette treatment too. The makeup brushes have tiny cat paws padding up the wands, much like on the side of the nail varnish bottles. The glamour puss’ signature white fur and piercing blue eyes feature prominently throughout, with an illustration of the pampered cat on the majority of the products to really prove their point. The palettes themselves are covered in white faux fur, with cute little ears and bright blue jewel eyes, leaving no doubt in your mind exactly who the inspiration is behind the brand’s second collaboration with the head of Chanel. The colour palettes chosen mean you can use all the products in both your day and night looks, although I’d perhaps leave the false eyelashes adorned with pink faux fur and diamante for one of your more special occasions.
Back to Lagerfeld’s launch tweet, the ‘maison de Shupette’ he mentions also includes an extension to the Shu Uemura website, whereby you can ‘talk’ directly to Mademoiselle Lagerfeld and ask her advice on your beauty needs, whilst taking a tour of her virtual Parisian pad. Bizarre maybe, but she seems to know what she’s meowing about. Much like Choupette, her name-sake collection pretty much has it all, so if you’re looking to purrfect your cat-eye or have a thing for felines, check it out before it’s too late.
